MINISTRIES AND ACTIVITIES
Acolytes
Our Acolyte Guild is composed of young persons, grade 4 and up, who participate in the Sunday worship services. The acolytes' primary duties are to assist the Priest during the Eucharist. Points are earned based upon attendance and crosses are awarded in recognition of levels of achievement. Training sessions are held for each new skill and to build confidence. This is a great way for a young person to learn more about the Church, to build lasting friendships, and to develop discipline and maturity.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is responsible for the preparation and care of the altar, vestments, linens and vessels used in the worship services of our Church. Generally, members volunteer to serve at one of the Sunday services during a month.
Flower Guild
San Jose Flower Guild is a hands-on ministry aimed at adorning our worship with the gift of fresh flowers. Flowers can be donated each Sunday in memory or in thanksgiving for a special person. After the service flowers are delivered to the sick and shut-in of the parish.
Breakfast Crew
The "best breakfast" in Jacksonville is served every Sunday morning immediately following the 8:00 a.m. service. A dedicated group enjoy "kitchen fellowship" while preparing and serving a delicious breakfast.
Choir
While adding a "joyful noise" to our 10:30 a.m. Family Eucharist, our choir leads the congregation in traditional and contemporary musical selections. All voices are welcome in this fun and fulfilling ministry of our Church.
Children's Choir
Our Angel Children's Choir is open to grades K through 4th. We have members from both the church and the school, who meet for rehearsals weekly and sing approximately every two months during our 10:30 Eucharist service. Our youngest worshippers enjoy this important ministry and have a great time raising their voices in celebration to God!
Christian Education
Sunday school is offered each week for children Pre-K through adult. In addition, there are many offerings during the year to challenge and nurture spiritual growth. Some examples of subjects offered are Bible study, healing ministry, inquirer's classes and small groups for spiritual growth.
Daughters of the King
Organized in 1885, this lay religious order for women in the Episcopal Church, promotes prayer, service and evangelism in the Church.
Day School
Begun as an outreach to provide quality education for families in the San Jose area, our Church Day School has grown into one of the finest elementary academic facilities in the city. It provides academic excellence in a Christian environment for students K4 through 6th grade.
San Jose Episcopal Church Ladies
Organized around common interest areas, provide projects and fellowship. All women of the Church are encouraged to attend the meetings which are held on the 2nd Saturday of the month at 10:15 a.m.
Lay Readers and Chalice Ministers
These men and women assist the Priest in Holy Eucharist through the administration of the Sacrament as well as the reading of the scripture and other liturgical prayer.
Sonshine Ministry
This 1988 founded ministry, through the gift of greeting cards, brings sunshine and smiles to our members on their special days such as birthdays and anniversaries and lets them know we are praying for them if they are ill or homebound. You are invited to participate in this worthwhile ministry by contacting Bunny Scott.
Ushers and Greeters
These smiling faces welcome newcomers, share information, care for people, and are an essential part of the Eucharist service as the ushers bring the bread and wine down the aisle to the altar and handle the alms. Click on our monthly usher schedule
